Solution: Disable all Add-ins. Does it still open slowly? If Express mode is turned off, Inventor would load the assembly usually along with graphical data from each sub-component. When the mode is turned on, it would just load the cache graphics stored in the top-level assembly file.
Defer Update in the drawing file is to prevent any model change from propagating to the drawing views. Check where the texture file path is?
